DAY 21 PARIS POST-TOUR
There were a few more sad farewells and photos at breakfast, then I was off to experience more of Paris on this final day of my three week adventure in Europe. I started at the Cluny Museum to see the famous Lady and the Unicorn tapestries as well as the other medieval art - the lower levels with the Roman Baths were also very impressive. Sainte Chapelle was my next stop, and I was very glad that I had waited to come on my own: I had the full light of mid-day coming through the stained glass windows and I was able to stay longer and really appreciate this fantastic space.
I found a ham and cheese crepe for a quick street lunch, and then took the Metro up to Montmarte and the Sacre Coeur. The church is only about a century old, but still quite impressive. The mosaic that covers the ceiling of the apse is said to be one of the largest in the world and is truly breath-taking. After taking in the view of Paris from the Sacre Coeur steps, I spent a bit more time exploring the streets and shops of Montmarte before heading back down to the Rue Cler neighborhood.
I had a salad withTandoori chicken and couscous at the Cafe Du Marche for my final Paris dinner, then reluctantly went back to the hotel to get re-packed for the long trip home. The desk staff at the Hotel Beaugency had taken care of arranging transportation to the airport for me, so I only had to pack and get a good night's sleep. Of all the wonderful places I experienced over these three weeks, Paris is the one place that surprised me and stole my heart. I hope I can return to this magic city someday.
