This busy day started with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before heading out on a walking tour with our local guide, Thomas.  A big hit for me was stopping to taste the grapes in a vineyard on our way up to the watchtower above the town. Thomas said we were lucky to be in town for the Federweisser, or 'new wine' Festival and recommended that we ask for it at dinner tonight.

Next, we were off to St. Goar for a look at the ruins of Rheinfels Castle.  I had taken the 2Euro mini-van up the steep hill to the castle, but decided to walk back down into town after our guided tour -  I was still contemplating castle life and the seven foot tall Celtic tombstone that was on display in the museum.  Rick's guide book says that it's "from 400 years before Christ."

There was just enough time for a quick look at the little shops of St. Goar before re-grouping at the K-D dock for our Rhine River cruise back to Bacharach.  On the cruise - well - sometimes, the only thing to do is sit back, relax, and watch the castles go by!

After dinner, I reflected on what a bargain this tour actually was. We had seen and done so much today, but it never felt rushed in any way.  Efficient, that's the word:  just like the one waitress that took care of our large group at dinner.  No worries, no hurry - the evening unfolded around a delicious meal, pleasant companions and, OH - don't forget the Federweisser!  Thanks for the tip Thomas!
